Slovenia with 13 Michelin Stars and 74 Restaurants in the Guide

Slovenian gastronomy has once again achieved remarkable international recognition. The renowned culinary guide MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 has highlighted the best Slovenian restaurants for the seventh consecutive year, once again confirming the outstanding quality, diversity and creativity of Slovenian cuisine.

This year’s Michelin Slovenia 2026 selection includes 74 restaurants, two more than last year. Slovenia now shines with 13 Michelin stars, one more than in 2025. The country’s highest distinction was once again retained by Hiša Franko with Ana Roš, which remains the only Slovenian restaurant with three Michelin stars. Milka with David Žefran once again received two Michelin stars, while eight Slovenian restaurants were awarded one star.

Among the new one-star restaurants is Galerija okusov from Petrovče, led by chef Marko Magajne. Slovenia also received the new special Opening of the Year Award for the first time, alongside the Young Chef Award, Sommelier Award and Service Award.

MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026: 74 Restaurants and 13 Stars

This year’s selection confirms Slovenia’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting gastronomic destinations. A total of 74 restaurants are included in the MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026, including 52 selected restaurants, six of which are new additions.

The new selected restaurants are Bistro 9:45 in Bovec, Bistro Štorja in Postojna, Gostilnica Barba in Novo mesto, Hiša Polonka in Kobarid, Restavracija Mangrt in Bovec and Srebrna vilica in Piran.

With this achievement, Slovenia continues to stand alongside countries with a strong culinary identity. Michelin recognition is not only an international confirmation for individual restaurants and chefs, but also an important contribution to Slovenia’s visibility as a destination for exceptional gastronomic experiences.

Hiša Franko Retains Three Michelin Stars in 2026

Hiša Franko with Ana Roš remains at the very top of global gastronomy in 2026. The restaurant from Kobarid has once again received three Michelin stars, the highest distinction awarded by the Michelin Guide.

Three stars indicate exceptional cuisine worth a special journey. With this recognition, Hiša Franko maintains its position as one of the most important restaurants in the wider region and remains a key ambassador of Slovenian cuisine worldwide.

The culinary story of Ana Roš and her team is built on strong local identity, creativity, technical precision and a deep connection with the Soča Valley. This combination has placed Hiša Franko among the most recognised restaurants in the world.

Milka Once Again Awarded Two Michelin Stars

Milka in Kranjska Gora, led by chef David Žefran, has received two Michelin stars for the fourth consecutive year. This recognition confirms the restaurant’s exceptional quality, consistency and distinctive culinary vision.

Milka is one of the strongest Slovenian gastronomic stories of recent years. Its cuisine is deeply connected with the Alpine environment, nature, seasonality and modern techniques, placing it among the most outstanding restaurants in Slovenia.

Two Michelin stars signify excellent cuisine worth a detour and represent one of the highest distinctions in the culinary world.

One Michelin Star Restaurants in Slovenia 2026

In the Michelin Slovenia 2026 selection, eight Slovenian restaurants received one Michelin star. This year, the list includes one newcomer: Galerija okusov from Petrovče, led by chef Marko Magajne.

The one Michelin star restaurants in Slovenia 2026 are:

COB, chef Filip Matjaž
Dam, chef Uroš Fakuč
Galerija okusov, chef Marko Magajne — new Michelin star
Gostilna pri Lojzetu, chef Tomaž Kavčič
Grič, chef Luka Košir
Hiša Denk, chef Gregor Vračko
Hiša Linhart, chef Uroš Štefelin
Pavus, chef Marko Pavčnik

One Michelin star denotes a very good restaurant in its category. This year’s selection shows that top-level gastronomy in Slovenia is not limited to one region, but is developing across the country — from Primorska and Gorenjska to Štajerska, Dolenjska and central Slovenia.

Galerija okusov Receives Its First Michelin Star

The biggest new addition among the one-star restaurants is Galerija okusov from Petrovče. Chef Marko Magajne and his team received the restaurant’s first Michelin star, while Magajne also received the special Young Chef Award.

Galerija okusov has long been known for its contemporary approach, combining local ingredients, aesthetics and culinary creativity. The new Michelin star is an important confirmation of their work and further proof that Slovenia’s culinary scene continues to grow beyond the country’s most established gastronomic centres.

Bib Gourmand 2026: 12 Restaurants Offering Excellent Value for Money

The Bib Gourmand distinction, awarded by the Michelin Guide to restaurants offering excellent value for money, was given to 12 Slovenian restaurants this year. Two are new additions: Klinec Medana and Gostilna Francl.

Bib Gourmand restaurants in Slovenia 2026 are:

Etna

Gostilnica Ruj
Gredič
Restavracija Jožef
Klinec Medana — new

Bib Gourmand is one of Michelin’s most practical distinctions for visitors, as it highlights restaurants where guests can enjoy an excellent culinary experience at a more accessible price. For Slovenian gastronomy, this selection is important because it demonstrates the breadth and quality of the country’s restaurant scene.

Michelin Special Awards 2026

This year’s selection also brought several special awards, highlighting excellence in different areas of the dining experience. In 2026, Michelin Guide also awarded the Opening of the Year Award in Slovenia for the first time.

Young Chef Award 2026: Marko Magajne, Galerija okusov

The Young Chef Award was awarded to Marko Magajne from Galerija okusov in Petrovče. The award highlights a young culinary talent who is already helping shape the future of Slovenian gastronomy.

The Service Award went to Peter Patajac from Gostilnica Ruj in Dol pri Vogljah. Michelin inspectors highlighted his warmth, friendliness and relaxed hospitality, which create a welcoming and homely atmosphere for guests.

Opening of the Year Award 2026: Gostilna Francl

The new Opening of the Year Award was awarded to Gostilna Francl in Celje, led by Sebastijan Kovačič. The award recognises the successful revival of a well-known restaurant that respects tradition while bringing it into a contemporary context.

Michelin Guide Discontinues the Green Star and Introduces Mindful Voices

This year’s selection also brings an important change to Michelin’s system of distinctions. On 1 June, the MICHELIN Guide introduced a new global editorial platform, Mindful Voices, dedicated to highlighting inspiring individuals in gastronomy, hospitality and winemaking.

At the same time, Michelin is discontinuing the Green Star, which had previously recognised sustainable practices in gastronomy. Despite the discontinuation of this distinction, sustainability remains one of the key areas in the development of Slovenian gastronomy and tourism.

Slovenia’s Michelin Story from 2020 to 2026

Slovenia received its first Michelin Guide edition in 2020 and achieved outstanding success in its very first year. At that time, Michelin awarded stars to six restaurants: five received one star and one received two.

In 2021, Slovenia gained one additional star. In 2022, nine restaurants received one star, while one restaurant retained two stars. In 2023, Slovenia received its first three-star restaurant, when Hiša Franko entered the highest Michelin category.

In 2024, 63 restaurants were included in the guide, while in 2025 the number rose to 72. In 2026, the selection has expanded to 74 restaurants, and the total number of Slovenian Michelin stars has increased to 13.

This development shows that Slovenian gastronomy is growing quickly, ambitiously and across different regions of the country.

Why Michelin Stars Matter for Slovenia

Michelin stars and other distinctions are highly significant for Slovenia. They strengthen the country’s international reputation, increase the visibility of Slovenian chefs and restaurants, and attract gastronomic travellers from around the world.

Top-level cuisine has become one of the key reasons to visit Slovenia. More and more guests choose their travel destinations based on gastronomic experiences, and Michelin-recognised restaurants play an important role in this decision.

With its combination of local ingredients, sustainable approaches, boutique experiences and outstanding creativity, Slovenia is increasingly recognised as a destination where gastronomy is an essential part of the wider tourism story.

MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 Confirms the Strength of Slovenian Gastronomy

The MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 selection is further proof that Slovenian gastronomy meets the highest international standards. With 74 restaurants in the guide, 13 stars, new special awards and an increasingly diverse regional presence, Slovenia shows that it may be a small country, but it has exceptional culinary potential.

Hiša Franko remains among the world’s culinary elite, Milka confirms its outstanding quality, and Galerija okusov, as a new Michelin-starred restaurant, shows that Slovenia’s culinary scene continues to grow and surprise.

The printed edition of MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 is expected to be available in August.

Ana Roš herself joins an elite group as the eighth female chef in the world to be awarded three stars, and one of only two women to hold this unique combination.

MICHELIN 2024

Hiša Franko with chef Ana Roš has also managed to retain its three Michelin stars this year, which it received last year. Thus, in 2024, Slovenia boasts one restaurant with three stars, one with two stars (Restaurant Milka), and eight with one star. The restaurants with one star are COB, Dam Restaurant, Gostilna pri Lojzetu, Gostišče Grič, Hiša Denk, Restaurant Strelec, Hiša Linhart, and Restaurant Pavus.

The presence of the ‘red bible’ in Slovenia in recent years has significantly contributed not only to increased visits and enhanced quality of selected Slovenian restaurants, but also to the broader development of Slovenian cuisine and the strengthening of destinations. The guide also opens up new opportunities for local communities.

Hiša Franko retains its prestigious three stars.
Milka Restaurant earns two stars.
Eight other restaurants awarded one star each: Grič, Dam, Strelec, Gostilna pri Lojzetu, Hiša Denk, COB, Hiša Linhart, Pavus

This year, 63 Slovenian restaurants are highlighted in the Michelin Guide, marking an increase of four from last year. Slovenian culinary excellence continues to soar.

Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the MICHELIN guide, comments: “Every year, the MICHELIN guide inspectors have the privilege of observing the persistent progress of the Slovenian culinary scene. They are led by restaurant owners who strive to promote their region and culinary identity at the highest level, excelling with their commitment to an increasingly demanding offering. Today, June 18, on International Sustainable Gastronomy Day, we present our Slovenian selection, which includes a new MICHELIN Green Star, illustrating the growing concern of local experts to envision the contours of ‘more virtuous and sustainable gastronomy’.

For decades, the Michelin Guide has set standards in the world of gastronomy. Its presence in Slovenia confirms the quality and diversity of our culinary offerings. Chefs from across the country have the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity on a global scale through independent inspectors, which promotes innovation and elevates the culinary scene. This positions Slovenia among desirable culinary destinations, attracting food enthusiasts from around the world.

Restaurant Pavus has been awarded one MICHELIN star

Recommended by inspectors some time ago for its exceptional cuisine, Restaurant Pavus has received its first MICHELIN star this year, reflecting a significant improvement in its culinary offering. Located in a 13th-century castle in Laško, this establishment is led by the talented Marko Pavčnik. It offers a unique cuisine that reinterprets Styrian culinary traditions and emphasizes the best local produce. Among the dishes highlighted by inspectors is trout with elderflower sauce, enriched with aromatic herbs and fresh strawberries, which is particularly characteristic of the chef’s culinary style. The excellent wine list features top wines from across the country, with a strong emphasis on white wines from the region.

Pavus is the eighth restaurant to receive a MICHELIN star in 2024; all seven restaurants awarded one star in 2023 retained this recognition this year. In the categories with two and three stars, Michelin inspectors have once again recognized the excellence of Hiša Franko and Milka. Their consistency and high level of refinement are exceptional, as evidenced by their maintaining the highest level of excellence.

Slovenia now boasts a total of ten restaurants with MICHELIN stars across all categories, confirming its status as an important European gastronomic destination.

An exceptional dedication to sustainability rewarded with one new restaurant receiving the MICHELIN Green Star

The MICHELIN Green Star in the MICHELIN guide is awarded to establishments that stand out for their exceptional approach to sustainable gastronomy. In this year’s selection, eight Slovenian restaurants have received this prestigious recognition for their exemplary combination of culinary excellence and ecological responsibility, serving as inspiration for both food enthusiasts and the entire industry.

Among these eight recipients of the MICHELIN Green Star for 2024 is the newcomer restaurant Galerija Okusov in Petrovče. Inspectors highlighted the restaurant for its commitment to collaborating almost exclusively with artisans operating within a 50 km radius, using ingredients grown on their own estate, and implementing a no-plastic policy.

The MICHELIN Green Star is an award presented by the MICHELIN guide to restaurants that make exceptional efforts in sustainability. This star recognizes restaurants that practice sustainable methods, reduce waste, care for the environment, and use local and seasonal ingredients. It complements the traditional MICHELIN stars, which assess culinary excellence, and emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in gastronomy.
