doca is coming to Croatia’s first Tribute Portfolio hotel – a new waterfront address in Rijeka
Rijeka’s new food and social destination will bring together breakfast by the sea, contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, cocktails, interiors by Saar Zafrir and the kind of evenings that have little interest in checking the clock.
Rijeka, 18 August 2026 – doca Restaurant, Bar & Lounge is coming soon to Rijeka’s waterfront, bringing a new destination for dining and socialising to Jadran, Rijeka, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Created for hotel guests, Rijeka locals and visitors to the city alike, doca is designed to move with the rhythm of the day – from breakfast and lunch to cocktails, sunset and dinner.
There are places you arrive at with a plan. And others that make you change it.
doca belongs firmly in the second category. The idea is simple: a day by the sea does not need a strict schedule. It might start with breakfast, continue over lunch, drift towards a cocktail at sunset and end with dinner a little later than intended.
Located directly by the sea, within the new Jadran, Rijeka, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in the Pećine neighbourhood, doca was never conceived as simply another hotel restaurant. Instead, it will be a destination in its own right, open to the city – for anyone drawn in by good food, a glass of wine, the view, or simply the feeling that it might be worth staying a little longer.
And that rhythm will start earlier than you might expect.
You will not need a room number to have breakfast at doca. Mornings will be open to outside guests too, with coffee, breakfast and the sea in front of you. Not as another attempt to create a brunch destination, but as the natural beginning of a day in a place designed to evolve from morning to evening, with a slightly different mood at every hour.
The name itself follows the same idea. Inspired by the English word dock, doca sees a waterfront not simply as a place of arrivals and departures, but as one of encounters, exchange and moments between the city and the sea. In Rijeka, a city whose identity is inseparable from its port, the concept finds a natural contemporary expression: somewhere to dock for an hour. Or change your mind and stay.
The Adriatic on the plate, the Mediterranean in its own way
doca’s culinary story will begin with the Adriatic, Kvarner and seasonal ingredients, without simply repeating familiar Mediterranean formulas. Local provenance will meet a contemporary, relaxed approach, with clear flavours and ingredients allowed to take centre stage.
From flavours rooted in the coast to meat and vegetable dishes, the menu will not try to explain the Mediterranean, but interpret it in its own way. Collaborations with selected local producers will further emphasise seasonality, quality and a connection to the places the ingredients come from.
The bar will play just as important a role as the kitchen. The cocktail menu will draw inspiration from the coast, herbs, citrus and the flavours of the Adriatic, while the wine list will place particular emphasis on Croatian labels alongside a carefully selected range of Mediterranean wines.
And when the sun begins to drop, doca has another plan.
A special place in doca’s daily rhythm will belong to the Sundowner Ritual – a moment when the daytime atmosphere gradually gives way to the evening, accompanied by music, cocktails and views across Kvarner Bay. Further details will be revealed closer to opening, but the golden hour is already set to become one of the defining moments of this new Rijeka destination.
Design that was never meant to stay in the background
The visual identity of the space is just as important to the story. The interiors are by internationally renowned designer Saar Zafrir, who has brought the restaurant, bar and lounge together in an open setting inspired by the sea, Rijeka’s port and the relaxed elegance of the Adriatic rivieras of the past.
A distinctly local creative signature comes from Juraj Zigman, who has designed the staff uniforms especially for doca. Their look has not yet been revealed, leaving this meeting of Rijeka and fashion as one of the surprises reserved for opening day.
A new doca in a new Jadran
doca is also part of a much bigger story: the return of one of Rijeka’s most recognisable hotels.
Following an extensive renovation, Jadran, Rijeka, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is returning to the waterfront as Croatia’s first Tribute Portfolio hotel, bringing together more than a century of hospitality heritage, Marriott International standards and a strong local identity.
Jadran’s story began in 1914, when the hotel and its adjoining seaside bathing complex first opened on the same site. In its new chapter, the hotel will feature 67 guest rooms and three suites, spaces for relaxing and spending time by the sea, a fitness centre, saunas and meeting and event facilities. doca will become its culinary and social heart – conceived just as much for the city around it as for the guests staying upstairs.
The opening date? Still under wraps.
doca is in the final stages of preparation, with the exact opening date to be announced soon.
