Savica Waterfall

Savica Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and picturesque waterfalls in Slovenia. Savica Waterfall is located above the steep slopes of Komarčna, near Lake Bohinj. Savica Waterfall is the source of the Sava Bohinjka river (also known as Savica), which on the bottom flows into the largest lake in Slovenia, Lake Bohinj.

Savica Waterfall is the third most visited attraction in Slovenia according to tourism center of Bohinj. Savica Waterfall is one of the most unique waterfalls in the world.

Savica Waterfall’s watercourse is divided into two parts in the hidden undergrounds. The famous A-shaped waterfall normally comes into sight at an altitude of 836 m and is 78 m high. Savica Waterfall is fed by the waters from the Valley of the Triglav Lakes and Pršivec that flow to it through a horizontal cave tunnel. The Karst cave with the source is full of siphons and lakes and is only accessible with a guide and proper equipment.

Savica Waterfall has a greater historical meaning for Slovenians as it served as an exceptional source of inspiration for one of the most beautiful paeans to the waterfall is the poem Baptism at Savica, by the greatest Slovenian poet France Prešeren, who also wrote the Slovenian national Anthem.

Kozjak Waterfall

Kozjak Waterfall plunges into a rocky “amphitheater” below the Krn range. Kozjak Waterfall is 15-meter tall and takes the stage in a hollowed-out underground hall. An arranged footpath will lead you to the waterfall. In some places, it is complemented by small wooden bridges and ends with a terrace with a mystical view of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia.

Note: Kozjak Waterfalls is a protected natural area. Even though the Kozjak Waterfall is an excellent destination for a walk in the hot summer days, because the steep walls preserve the pleasant coolness and slightly lower temperatures, the pool under the waterfall is not suitable for swimming.

Peričnik Waterfall

Peričnik Waterfall is the tallest and probably one of the most iconic waterfalls in Slovenia. Peričnik Waterfall is located on the road towards Vrata Valley, above which you will be able to spot the highest Slovenian mountain – Triglav. The most amazing feature of Peričnik Waterfall is probably the fact that you can walk under the waterfall. However, be careful as the path is wet and very slippery.

Boka Waterfall

Boka Waterfall is located in the stunning Soča Valley, on the road between Bovec and Kobarid. The mighty and beautiful Boka Waterfall is known as the highest-volume waterfall in Slovenian, its total height comes up to a whopping 144 meters with a width of 18 meters.

The water of the Boka Waterfall comes from the high mountains in the Kanin mountain chain, making Boka Waterfall the mightiest waterfall in Slovenia. The pool below the Boka Waterfall is over 30 meters deep, due to the strong waters hitting the ground and resulting in a strong erosion, which is increasing the depth of the pool below the Boka Waterfall.

Boka Waterfall is considered as one of the greatest waterfalls in Europe. To get to the Boka Waterfall you will need to climb your way up, but the view of the Soča Valley below will be worth it.

Rinka Waterfall

Veliki and Mali Šumnik Waterfalls are fed by the water of Lobnica stream from the Pohorje forest in the Drava Valley.

After a short descent between the steep slopes along the Lobnica stream, you will arrive at the Veliki Šumik waterfall, one of the mightiest waterfalls in Slovenia; and a little further on is the waterfall Mali Šumik. The path between Veliki and Mali Šumik waterfalls is regarded as very difficult. Therefore, we highly recommend having the right equipment for hiking with you.
