Frank Zappa, the often controversial American composer, rock musician, guitarist, singer, leader of The Mothers of Invention, campaigner against censorship and vocal critic of the music industry, produced music in a wide variety of styles. His work drew on both mid-century pop music and the sonic worlds of composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Charles Ives, Edgard Varèse and Karlheinz Stockhausen, creating multi-layered textures and abrupt shifts in mood, resulting in Brechtian estrangement effects and Dadaist confrontation. Ensemble Dissonance, a renowned group that has made its mark on the Slovenian cultural scene with performances of works by contemporary Slovenian composers as well as classical masterpieces, and the conductor Jonathan Stockhammer, with whom they performed last year (Mahler in Ljubljana), will bring their interpretive breadth to Zappa’s oeuvre. Stockhammer enjoys working with experimental and unconventional concert formats which create new listening experiences. On the solo guitar will be Vlatko Stefanovski, a guitarist renowned for his unique technique and tone. In the last few years, Stefanovski has performed and recorded with top musicians, among others with Tommy Emmanuel, Stochelo Rosenberg, Gibonni, Jan Akkerman, Theodosii Spassov, Stefan Milenković, Kudsi Ergüner, Bojan Z., Manu Katché, and Toni Levin. The vocalist will be Blaž Šef, who participates in many projects of various institutions, such as Škuc Gallery, Glej Theatre, Plesni Teater Ljubljana, RTV Slovenia, Cankarjev dom, SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and others.
