On the picturesque hills above Loče and Žiče, where the winemaking tradition intertwines with the history of the Žiče Charterhouse, one of the more compelling modern wine stories in Slovenia is taking shape. Meum Winery, led by the Brumec family, continues a legacy first established in this area by Carthusian monks in the 12th century. Today, Meum is synonymous with boutique production, distinctive terroir, and wines that combine elegance, freshness, and a contemporary winemaking approach.

A wine story with roots in the 12th century

What makes Meum particularly special is its strong connection to the history of the place. When French Carthusian monks from Grenoble founded the Žiče Charterhouse, they planted the first vines on the surrounding hills, laying the foundations of a winegrowing tradition that the Brumec family is now bringing back to life. The name Meum comes from the Latin phrase et vinum meum, meaning “my wine,” beautifully reflecting the personal relationship with wine, the land, and the work behind it.

Under the leadership of Jurij Brumec, the winery cultivates around six hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 20,000 bottles annually. Its philosophy is clearly boutique: smaller quantities, greater attention to detail, and a strong focus on quality.

A terroir that gives the wines their character

Meum’s vineyards lie at elevations between 350 and 480 meters, on steep, south-facing slopes with marl-rich soils. This location and soil composition make it possible to produce wines with pronounced minerality, vibrant freshness, and precise varietal expression. The Brumec family places particular emphasis on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, two varieties especially well suited to this environment.

Visitors to Meum are often struck by the feeling that wine here is not simply a product, but a reflection of the landscape itself. Every vine is cultivated with the intention of preserving the character of the place and the vintage in every bottle.

Elegance in the glass

Meum’s portfolio is diverse, yet stylistically consistent. Among the reds, Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, and Fusion stand out, while the whites include Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Pinot Gris.

Their wines are known for elegance, complexity, and varietal purity, so it comes as no surprise that they have received numerous awards both in Slovenia and abroad.

A tasting with a view and a story

A visit to Meum is more than just a tasting — it is an experience of nature, panoramic views, and wine storytelling. During a visit, guests discover the connection between the Carthusian heritage and modern family winemaking, and selected vintages can be enjoyed alongside carefully prepared bites. Tastings are available by prior appointment, allowing for a personal approach and dedicated attention to every visitor.
