From 3 to 31 December 2025, the city of Kranj – known as the city of France Prešeren – transforms into a festive hub filled with light, culture, and joy. The streets of the old town glow with Christmas decorations, accompanied by illuminated verses of Slovenia’s greatest poet. On his birthday, 3 December, the city lights up with his timeless words: “Let us think kindly,” “May all reach out their hands,” and “Raise your glasses.”
The month-long celebration features a rich cultural and entertainment programme, including the official opening ceremony, St. Nicholas parade, concerts, street performances, children’s shows, and a lively New Year’s Eve celebration in the heart of the old town. Musical performances by local artists, choirs, and popular Slovenian bands bring warmth and rhythm to the festive atmosphere.
Visitors can stroll through the holiday market, where local artisans and creators offer handmade gifts, traditional delicacies, and seasonal souvenirs. The city is beautifully decorated with Christmas trees, glowing sculptures, and a magical forest for children, creating an enchanting winter setting perfect for families and visitors of all ages.
Prešeren December is more than just a celebration — it’s a heartfelt blend of culture, community, and joy. Each year, Kranj invites everyone to experience the true spirit of the holidays in a city where poetry, light, and friendship come together.
