The Dragon Carnival is a traditional Shrovetide event in Ljubljana, taking place on March 1, 2025, at 11 AM. The event features a grand carnival parade through the city streets and an entertaining program at Congress Square. The parade showcases traditional masks from Slovenia’s pagan folklore, such as kurenti, laufarji, morostarji, and others. These masks are known for their vivid and unique designs, reflecting the country’s rich carnival traditions. Some of the most famous Slovenian carnival figures include the Ptuj kurenti, the Cerkno laufarji, the škromati, as well as the mačkare and petelini from Dobrepolje.
