The first cases of Coronavirus confirmed in Slovenia just a day after the Slovenian member of the Regional Council was also infected with Coronavirus in Italy.

The first confirmed case of Coronavirus in Slovenia was just a matter of time. Former Prime Minister Marjan Šarec said on Twitter yesterday evening that the first infection with the novel Coronavirus had been confirmed in Slovenia. Health Minister Aleš Šabeder addressed the press after the announcement, saying that the infected person had come to Slovenia from Morocco via Italy.

The second case of Coronavirus infection has also been confirmed in Slovenia. It is a person who has been in contact with the first Coronavirus patient but is not a family member. Health Minister Aleš Šabeder said, with the person has been in contact with the first patient, who had been detected on Wednesday. The authorities are rushing to identify other persons who have been in contact with the man who was confirmed as the first Coronavirus case in Slovenia yesterday. The Ljubljana physician who attended to the patient has already been isolated. Health Minister Aleš Šabeder said a list of persons in contact with the man was being compiled. High-risk persons have had swab samples taken, with the results still pending.

So far hospitals in the country have performed 352 tests of possible infection of Coronavirus in Slovenia. Many hospitals have prohibited or limited visitations in recent days due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Slovenia. Many schools have also been closed from earlier this week and many more will most likely follow the closing procedure due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Slovenia.

The first case of Coronavirus in Slovenia is being treated in Ljubljana

The person infected with Coronavirus in Slovenia is currently being treated at the infection ward of the UKC Ljubljana hospital, in a room which had been set up for the admittance of the first potential patients with Coronavirus in Slovenia. The National Public Health Institute (NIJZ) is identifying the persons who have been in contact with the infected individual and confirm this person is indeed the first case of Coronavirus in Slovenia.

So far the country has prepared hospital isolation rooms in case of more cases with Coronavirus in Slovenia and urged citizens to be particularly careful with hygiene. Many hospitals have prohibited or limited visitations in recent days.

The first confirmed case of Coronavirus in Slovenia has visited their general practitioner today, who referred the person to the infection ward due to noticeable signs of infection. A swab was taken there and the result was positive for Coronavirus in Slovenia, with the patient being immediately hospitalized in line with the protocol that was determined in advance, Šabeder told the press.

Slovenian authorities to take action after the first case of Coronavirus in Slovenia has been confirmed

Based on the first infection with Coronavirus in Slovenia, Šabeder also added that the Health Ministry had been informed about the positive test, performed by the Ljubljana Institute of microbiology and immunology, around 8.44 pm. Šabeder said that the situation over the infection with Coronavirus in Slovenia would also be discussed by the government today.

Maja Sočan of the NIJZ said that the likely source of the infection was, with first information suggesting that the case had been imported, with the person getting infected in Morocco. The relevant authorities will ask the person about their whereabouts in recent days, examine their condition and talk with persons who are the closest to the infected, for whom the strictest measures are envisaged. Sočan said that there was no information about these persons, adding that identifying them was a priority. “Our job is to find patients with Coronavirus in Slovenia, and provide them with advice so that the infection does not spread,” she added.

Hungary has also confirmed its first case of Coronavirus. “Two patients have been taken into medical care due to coronavirus infections,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a Facebook video message. While the situation in Italy keeps getting worst by the day, with a total of 107 deaths due to Coronavirus and over 2000 infected people. Italy orders closure of all schools and universities due to coronavirus.

While caseloads have steadily declined in the virus epicenter China, infections and deaths are rising in Asia and Europe, with cases appearing in new countries almost every day. More than 90,000 people have been infected and around 3,200 have died worldwide from the virus, the vast majority in China where COVID-19 first emerged late last year.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has so far stopped short of declaring a pandemic, though it has said the world must prepare for the possibility.  

The virus has reached over 80 countries and territories around the world, with South Korea, Iran, and Italy emerging as hotspots outside China.
