A special picture on the cover
This time our cover of The Slovenia map features something special. The cover is graced by Slovenian ornament created by Jože Karlovšek – a symbol of Slovenian cultural heritage.
Jože Karlovšek (1900–1963) was an explorer and expert in ornamental art and Slovenian architectural heritage. He dedicated his life to the research and development of Slovenian ornamentation.
The Slovenian ornament has a rich tradition and history, with its roots tracing back to ancient times in the Slavic world. People took pride in the aesthetics of their homes, useful items, and clothing. The motifs revolved around their everyday life, with nature-inspired elements such as grapevines, carnations, tulips, roses, birds, and hearts prevailing.
The Ornament Collection by Jože Karlovšek continues his work and preserves the rich cultural heritage of Slovenian ornamentation. We are delighted that this particular ornament graces the cover of our map.
