Winery of the Week: Vino Lilek – A Wine Story from Šentilj

In Šentilj in the Slovenske Gorice wine region, close to the Slovenian-Austrian border, the Lilek family continues the winemaking tradition of its ancestors while adding a modern wine and tourism dimension. Vino Lilek brings together diverse vineyard sites, quality wines, homemade delicacies and a beautifully restored 200-year-old wine cellar, where every glass comes with stories of the region and the family behind it.

Tradition with a New Chapter

The Lilek family places great importance on respecting the winemaking traditions of previous generations while creating a wine story of their own. They are particularly proud of the wide variety of grape varieties grown on the excellent vineyard sites of Slovenske Gorice.

Their range includes quality dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet wines, available both by the bottle and in other formats. Among the varieties produced by the estate is Zweigelt, a red wine grown in Slovenia’s Styrian border region close to Austria.

Winery of the Week: Kušter – Wines with Tradition from Svečina

In Svečina, right next to the Slovenian-Austrian border, the story of the Šerbinek family, known as Kušter, has been developing for centuries. Their family name dates back at least 500 years, while the house name Kušter has been used for around 300 years – and today it also appears on their wines. The 200-Year-Old Lilek Wine Cellar

One of the highlights of the estate is the Old Lilek Cellar in the centre of Šentilj, which dates back around 200 years. Carefully restored, the cellar now provides an authentic setting for wine tastings, homemade delicacies and stories connected with the family’s winemaking heritage.

At nearby Očjak, the family is also developing a more contemporary wine tourism experience surrounded by vineyards. Alongside their wines, guests can enjoy homemade products such as juices, jams, fruit and vegetables.

Wine, Views and Overnight Stays

At Vino Lilek, the experience goes beyond a glass of wine. The family also offers accommodation, allowing guests to start the day with a breakfast made from home-grown produce and end it with a glass of local wine while enjoying views towards Pohorje.

Their website currently features the rooms Tulipan, Srce and Deteljica, with reservations available directly through the estate.
