In the heart of Slovenia’s Vipava Valley, in the picturesque village of Zalošče, stands the De Adami winery – where love for the soil, the vine, and family has been intertwined for over a century.
This is not just a story about wine – it is a story about perseverance, dedication, and harmony with nature.

From Many Grapes, One Cluster – One Story, Many Hands

The roots of the De Adami story go back to the early 20th century, when Anton Slejko added the first vines to his family’s farm and began crafting wine. After his death, his 13-year-old son Venceslav bravely took over the estate and expanded the vineyards, laying the foundations for commercial winemaking.

His son, also named Anton, continued the legacy and co-founded the first private agricultural cooperative in former Yugoslavia – a pioneering effort to connect local farmers. Today, the vineyard is proudly led by Borut Slejko, representing the third generation of winemakers, who carry on their ancestors’ vision with passion and respect for tradition.

Each family member, friend, and neighbor plays a part – like a single grape in the cluster – each one vital to the whole.

Brands with a Historical Soul

De Adami – The brand is named after Adami Klemše, the first recorded inhabitant of Zalošče and a remarkable figure of the 17th century. A co-creator of Jesuit education in the Goriška region and founder of the first agricultural school in Slovenia, his legacy continues to inspire the winery’s philosophy.

Zaloščan – Named after the village itself, Zaloščan honors the stories passed down through generations and symbolizes pride in heritage and connection to home.

Philosophy: In Harmony with Nature

De Adami’s philosophy rests on respect for nature, tradition, and people. No herbicides are used in the vineyards, and grapes are left to ripen naturally, tended by hand with minimal intervention.

Each glass of wine reflects a delicate balance between nature, humanity, and heritage – an expression of authenticity that can be felt and tasted.

Wines with Character

De Adami cultivates 13 international varieties, yet two indigenous Slovenian grapes hold a special place in their vineyards:

  • Zelen – aromatic and elegant, often described as the poetic soul of France Prešeren, Slovenia’s greatest poet.
  • Pinela – gentle and refined, dedicated to Prešeren’s muse, Julija Primic – a symbol of unfulfilled love.

Preserving these native varieties means preserving the identity of place and time.

Awards 2025: A Testament to Quality

The winery’s dedication has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including:

  • 🥇 Gold for Sauvignon 2024 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
  • 🥈 Silver for Merlot 2018 and Regina Bela Cuvée 2024
  • 🥉 Bronze for Pinot Noir 2015

Each accolade reaffirms their path – one built on tradition, nature, and respect.
