The Simčič family’s wine making history goes back to 1812 and the contemporary Medot trademark was founded in the 1990s by Miro Simčič. Miro studied winemaking in Italy and Ljubljana and his ever- growing knowledge and successful expansion of the vineyard earned him several awards and honourable membership of the Brda Municipality and Italian Academy of Vine and Wine. Today, the three hectare estate, which lies in the heart of magnificent Goriška Brda, is run by Medot
Miro’s son Igor and grandson Simon who preserve the precious heritage that Miro established throughout his life. The vines themselves are now more than four decades old and thrive in the perfect conditions of the location’s microclimate, altitude and rich soil. From Rebula, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties they produce a range of top quality sparkling wines using the classic method.
