According to provisional data (SURS), in the period from January to March 2020, tourist accommodations in tourist establishments in Slovenia recorded almost 667,000 tourist arrivals and 1.87 million overnight stays, or 27.6% fewer arrivals and 23% less overnight stays than in the same period last year.
According to the figures, tourism in March 2020 was heavily characterized by the effects of the coronavirus epidemic.
1.87 million overnight stays were recorded during the first three months of 2020
In the first three months of 2020, 666,955 tourist arrivals and 1,878,858 overnight stays were recorded, which compared to 2019 represents a 27.6% decline in tourist arrivals and a 23% decline in tourist overnight stays. Of these, foreign guests generated 405,225 (60.8%) of all arrivals, which represents a 27.7% decrease in tourist arrivals compared to 2019 and 1,093,199 (58.2%) of all overnight stays, which represents 2019 compared to 2019. 23.2% decrease in tourist overnight stays of foreign guests.
In March 2020, a total of 85,894 tourist arrivals and 270,647 overnight stays were recorded, which compared to March 2019 represents a 74.8% decline in tourist arrivals and a 67.2% decline in tourist overnight stays. In March, foreign guests generated 47,530 tourist arrivals (55.3%) and 145,842 overnight stays (53.9% of all).
Most overnight stays in March were made by tourists from Austria (12%), Croatia (10%), Germany (9%), Italy (8%) and Serbia (7%).
