The guideline and core of THE SLOVENIA RESTAURANT AWARDS BY DINERS CLUB project are the international recognition of Slovenia as a gastronomic tourist destination, ensuring high quality of food and services, increasing visits to restaurants and the development of a healthy “foodie” culture of Slovenes.
With many years’ experience in the field of international tourism literature, the organiser wants to contribute to an independent and expert overview of the best restaurants in Slovenia, which is multifaceted and intended for the general public, domestic and foreign visitors. They decided on the project THE SLOVENIA RESTAURANT AWARDS BY DINERS CLUB because of the needs and wishes of the market, and were aware that one-of-a-kind tourism is becoming the fastest-growing tourist industry in the world.
The organiser’s vision of THE SLOVENIA RESTAURANT AWARDS BY DINERS CLUB is the international recognition of Slovenia as a gastronomic tourist destination, a long-term rise in the quality of services and a visit to restaurants, and the development of a healthy “foodie” culture of Slovenes, thus ensuring the best of Slovenian cuisine.
Voting took place in three phases: a selection of 201 best restaurants was prepared by an Expert Committee. In the second phase members of the Gastronomic Academy voted. Academy members are food experts, journalists, critics, bloggers, experts and fan of enogastronomy, numerous winemakers, sommeliers and representatives various industry associations. Their votes counted for 75% of the final grade. For the final phase, the general public was invited through the media, social media and the web to vote for their favorite restaurant. Their votes count 25% of the final grade.
The beginning of the vote for the Gastronomic Academy started on January 30, 2019, followed by a vote for the general public, March 1, 2019 and concluded on March 31, 2019. We voted for the confirmation on April 19, 2019 to the audit firm Deloitte Slovenia, which, according to a predetermined voting system, performed an independent review of the received votes of the Gastronomic Academy and the public. Revision t.i. “Voting system” includes a systematic expert overview of the technical and organizational aspects and ensures credibility in the process itself.
