Everything you need to know about e-vignette for Slovenian motorways. An e-vignette is a digital version of the vignette that replaced the vignette stickers and will be linked to the individual registration numbers of vehicles.

Everyone travelling on Slovenian motorway, even just for a few meters, MUST HAVE a valid vignette.

E-VIGNETTE in Slovenia

Tolls for using motorways and expressways can be paid for four different time periods, during which you can freely use all toll roads. After your e-vignette expires, you need to buy a new e-vignette for the correct toll class to continue driving on the motorways or expressways.

What is an e-vignette?

An e-vignette is a modern toll payment method for motor vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3500 kg. The basic characteristics of the e-vignette are not very different from the classic vignette in the form of a sticker. This means that by purchasing the e-vignette, you get the right to use all motorways and expressways in the Republic of Slovenia for the e-vignette validity period and the toll is not paid based on the distance driven.

Vehicles without a valid e-vignette may not enter a toll road.

The e-vignette is linked to the vehicle registration plate number. When purchasing the e-vignette, you need to enter the correct registration plate number and country of your vehicle registration, and choose an e-vignette for the right toll class. If the registration number in the e-vignette system does not match the registration plate number of the vehicle driving on the motorway or expressway, the toll is not deemed to be paid. The customer is responsible for entering a correct registration plate number and selecting an appropriate toll class.

Annual e-vignette

Annual e-vignette is valid from the validity start date selected by the buyer until the end of the same day in the following year. For example: if you purchase an annual e-vignette and select 15 April 2024 as a start date of its validity, you may use the motorways and expressways with this e-vignette up to and including 15 April 2025, i.e. until 12 midnight on that day. The only exception to the annual e-vignette occurs in a leap year, if 29 February, which is not included in the calendar of the following year, is selected as the start date by the customer – in such a case, the annual e-vignette validity expires on 28 February in the following year. BUY NOW

Semi-annual e-vignette

Semi-annual e-vignette is valid from the start date selected by the user until the end of the same day after six months, or until the last day of that month if there is no such day in the sixth month. For example: if you select 15 April 2024 as the validity start date for the semi-annual e-vignette, you may use the motorways and expressways with this e-vignette up to and including 15 October 2024, i.e. until 12 midnight on that day. And if you select 31 May 2024 as the validity start date, the validity of the semi-annual e-vignette expires on 30 November. The semi-annual e-vignette is only available for the first toll class, i.e. for single-track motor vehicles (motorcycles). BUY NOW

Monthly e-vignette

Monthly e-vignette is valid from the start date selected by the user until the end of the same day in the following month, or until the last day of that month, if there is no such day. For example: if you select 15 April 2024 as the validity start date for the monthly e-vignette, you may use the motorways and expressways with this e-vignette up to and including 15 May 2024, i.e. until 12 midnight on that day. And if you select 31 May 2024 as the validity start date, the validity of a monthly e-vignette expires on 30 June. Monthly e-vignettes will be available for toll payment from 1 February 2024. Until then, it will be possible to pay the toll for this time period by purchasing and correctly installing a regular vignette in the form of a sticker.

Weekly e-vignette

Weekly e-vignette is valid for seven consecutive days from its validity start date selected by the customer. The first day of the weekly e-vignette validity always counts (this means that a weekly e-vignette is valid on the start date of its validity and on the following six days). For example: if you purchase a weekly e-vignette and select, 15 April 2024 as its validity start date, you can use the motorways and expressways with this e-vignette until midnight on 21 April 2024.

Refund of the residual e-vignette value

Refund of the residual e-vignette value is only possible for annual and semi-annual e-vignettes. If a vehicle with the registration number linked to an annual or semi-annual e-vignette is removed from the record of registered vehicles before the expiration of the e-vignette, the owner or holder of such a vehicle may claim a residual value refund for the annual or semi-annual e-vignette from the toll road operator for the time from the date of the vehicle removal from the record of registered vehicles to the date of the e-vignette’s expiry.

The same applies if a competent authority issues a new register plate with a different registration number for a vehicle with a registration number linked to the e-vignette before its validity expiration (for example, due to the theft or loss of the target plate), namely for the time from the date when the new registration plate is issued to the expiration date of the e-vignette’s validity.

How to buy an e-vignette?

A valid e-vignette for the correct toll-rate category is mandatory for all motor vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3500 kilograms when entering a toll road. This means that the e-vignette must be paid for before you enter the motorway or expressway.

You can easily buy an e-vignette from the comfort of your living room in our online shop in a quick and simple way. E-vignettes can also be purchased at DARS points of sale (DarsGo services) or at authorised dealers.
