On the rolling hills of Špičnik, just below the famous road that winds through the vineyards in the shape of a heart, sits the family-run Gaube Winery – a house of wine, tradition, and heartfelt dedication. Embraced by pristine nature where the vine breathes with the landscape and the landscape with its people, the Gaube estate has, for generations, been a symbol of authentic Styrian winemaking.
This is a story of people who follow nature, respect it deeply, and create wines that reflect the character of the land and the hands that shape them.
Winemaking Through Time
The history of viticulture on the Gaube farm stretches back to the 19th century, when Kaspar Gaube (1859–1923) built a vineyard cottage on the property border, thus cementing the family’s winemaking tradition. His dedication and craftsmanship were recognized early on — he received his first awards for wine and fruit in 1901 and 1904.
Although the production of wine halted for a period, the family returned to their vineyards with new energy and, in 1992, began bottling their own wines again. Much has changed since then, but the foundation remains the same: a deep love for the vine and unwavering devotion to winemaking.
Work in the vineyard is still predominantly manual. Each vine feels the presence and care of its winegrower, which is reflected in the high-quality grapes and the distinct identity of their wines.

The Gaube Wine Identity
Gaube wines are known for their freshness, fruitiness, and clearly expressed varietal characteristics. A hallmark of Styrian wines is the pronounced difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, which preserves natural acidity and aromatic richness in the grapes.
The estate covers nearly 9 hectares of vineyards, allowing for an impressive diversity of wines. The combination of location, soil, and climate creates ideal conditions for producing varieties such as:
- Sauvignon
- Pinot Gris
- Silvaner
- Pinot Noir
- Chardonnay
- Yellow Muscat
- Welschriesling
Alongside their classic wines, they also offer two special lines — Kaspar and Emanuel — representing more mature, full-bodied wines with character. Lovers of sparkling wines will enjoy their White Sparkling Wine and Rosé Sparkling Wine, both made using the traditional method.

Experiences and Wine Tastings
Gaube Winery offers more than wine – it offers an authentic experience of the Špičnik wine hills. By prior arrangement, they organize guided tastings for groups of up to 24 people. Visitors can explore the family’s story, learn about vineyard work, and discover the characteristics of individual varieties.
Thanks to its idyllic location and warm hospitality, a visit to Gaube is a delight for anyone who appreciates nature, wine, and family tradition.
