This year’s selection of 166 of the best Slovenian restaurants was carefully selected by the expert committee composed of ethnologists: dr. Janez Bogataj (FF) and dr. Aleša Gačnika (Turistica), mag. Helene Cvikl (Director of the Higher Vocational School for Catering and Tourism Maribor), international best-selling author and professor of art history dr. Noah Charney, and the owner of LjubljanaNjam, Ive Gruden, who focuses on culinary tours, is the author and lecturer.
Members of the expert committee selected the restaurants on the following basis:
• The restaurant must have been open for at least one year. The restaurants opened in 2016 will only be able to run for 2018.
• Food and beverages (variety, ingredients quality, presentation of dishes, taste compliance, innovation and proper food and drink combination)
• Service (greeting, service, food and drink recommendation, and knowledge of the staff)
• Based on this, a common assessment of “general satisfaction” was made when visiting the restaurant.
At the Round Table of Taste of Slovenia, which took place on 31 January 2018 as part of the Alpe-Adria Natour fair, we signed, among others, a contract with mag. Mladen Mirko Tepušem, MBA, director of Diners Club International, as the general sponsor of this year’s The Slovenia Restaurant Awards. National selection of the best Slovenian restaurants, which we prepare in cooperation with partners: Dnevnik d.d, The Slovenia Times, City Life, Playboy, STA, Ljubljana, RTV Slovenija, Pet Zvezdica, Mad.Over.Net, and Portal Gastrogurman and others will be even better this year – professional, independent and all-Slovenian. The audit of the results will be carried out by the audit firm Deloitte d.o.o.
