We then turn our route towards the second plateau called Dedno Polje, and yet another plateau afterwards called Planina Ovčarija (Sheep Plateau). Finally, as we approach the towering mountains above a long Alpine valley, we know we just crossed over to the high-lying Valley of the Triglav Lakes and soon after we reach the Dvojno jezero lake (Double Lake) with a cute hut right next to the 5th and 6th Triglav Lakes. We spend the night in the Double Lake Hut.

Once at Lake Krn, the largest high Alpine lake in Slovenia, we can spend the rest of the day by the lake, do more hikes to the scenic peaks nearby, or eat and rest at the Lake Krn Hut.

Elevation gain for the second day is around 480 m, descent about 820 m.

After spending the night at the Lake Krn Hut, we head towards Mt. Krn, 2,244 m, the highest mountain of the Krn Mountains in the southwestern Julian Alps with stunning views of all Julian Alps. The ascent usually takes around 3 hours and we do about 850 m elevation gain on an easy trail.

After enjoying ourselves at the top for a while, taking pictures and congratulating ourselves for almost completing our big mountain venture, we have our last mountain lunch just a few meters below the peak in a small shelter hut. Afterwards, we descend down to the Soča Valley. Overnight in Kobarid.

Elevation gain for the second day is around 880 m, descent about 1300 m.

We begin our last day with an exciting rafting session right on the Soča River! What a perfect river to do that! With crystal clear and welcoming turquoise water running down a beautiful stream surrounded by mountains, it serves just the right amount of rapids to make our hearts pumping with adrenaline.

After lunch we head back again to the other side of the Julian Alps. We make a stop at the Vršič Pass, one of the most scenic mountain passes in Slovenia, and enjoy our last mountain treat together underneath tall eerie walls of Mt. Prisojnik. Dober tek in srečno!
