The William’s pear spirit Zima winner of the prestigious international competition IWSC

Zima, a spirit made of William’s pear, of the Slovene producer Evrosad, is the winner of the prestigious international competition IWSC.

The William’s pear spirit, Zima, of the producer Evrosad, has won first place in the prestigious international competition IWSC. It is a rare recognition of the quality of Slovenian spirits, especially on a competition, which is considered to be the equivalent of the Oscars in the world of alcoholic drinks. IWSC is famous for its strict two-tier process of assessment. The beverages first pass a round of blind testing, after which they go through a series of microbiological and chemical analyses. More than four hundred experts from around the world assess alcoholic beverages from more than 90 countries, the assessment process itself taking several months.

˝The award means a great deal, for it is an expert who recognizes that we are doing something right˝ the director of Evrosad, Boštjan Kozole said. He also added he is delighted that ˝we received an acknowledgment that Slovene products, made with natural ingredients, can compete with the best producers in the world˝.

The ingredients are carefully selected

A part of the success of Zima (literally meaning ˝Winter˝), can undoubtedly be attributed to the manufacturing procedure. The spirit is prepared according to a half-century old, classic recipe. The ingredients are carefully selected, and there are no added aromas, colorings, or tastes.

The making of Zima uses only the very best pears from orchards, where modern fruit production in the Posavska region, began in 1952. The pears are picked by hand, left to individually ripen and distilled in small batches, which gives the beverage a unique taste. The remarkable character of Zima emanates from the respect of the nature of Posavje, traditional Slovenian knowledge of distilling, and rich heritage of fruit cultivation.

˝We would like to make the world’s best William’s pear spirit. We want to establish Vilijamovka as an indigenous beverage of Slovenia, and present it to the entire world˝ also added Boštjan Kozole.
