Summer Cultural Events In Velenje

Organised and coordinated by Festival Velenje the festival runs a very diverse program featuring music concerts, film screenings, theatre plays, child oriented programs and more. It lasts throughout the summer months, from end of June untill September 2019.

1. GUŠTO GRE NA ROMANJE

4. 7., 20:30, atrium of Velenje castle

In a monocomedy Primož Forte performs a humorous and moving story of Gušto, a character from a well-known Slovenian romantic comedy Ena žlahtna štorija.

2. STOP – THE SLOVENIAN PERCUSSION PROJECT– 20 YEARS

7. 7., 20:00, Tito square, Velenje
Academically educated musicians gathered to play quality chamber music and exploit new percussion sounds. They upgrade their musical and social mission by exploring other musical and non-musical art genres wich gives them synergy in other art fields and shifts them from performing strictly classical percussion programme.

3. STRING QUARTET NOVA

10. 7., 20:00, Sunny park, Velenje

A musical picnic that brings clasical and modern music presented by four energetic young string players.

4. BAJAGA & INSTRUKTORI

13. 7., 21:00, Vila Herberstein (park), Velenje

Bajaga & Instruktori are a Serbian rock band. Founded in Belgrade in 1984 by composer, lyricist and guitarist Momčilo Bajagić “Bajaga”. The group possesses a rich discography and a plethora of hit songs that placed them at the top of the former Yugoslav rock scene.

5. DUO ZAJTRK

16. 7., 20:00, atrium of Velenje Gallery
Laura Krajnc and Sven Horvat form Duo Zajtrk. She plays the violin and tambourine, he plays the guitar and they both sing. Their compositions are satirical and witty poetry sung through songs.

6. ZABRANJENO PUŠENJE

19. 7., 21:00, Tito square, Velenje
Zabranjeno pušenje is a rock band from Sarajevo and one of the most popular bands of the 80’s in former Yugoslavia. The group’s musical style primarily consists of a distinctive garage rock sound with folk influences, often featuring innovative production and complex storytelling.

7. BORIS BEJA: TIŠINA V ČASU HRUPA

25. 7.–31. 8.

Opening of exhibition: 25. 7., 19:00, Velenje (Velenje Gallery)

Sculpture installation that invites to interpret silence, the key element of the artist’s creative being. The silence enables us to think about sounds, music and voices in our own way.

8. DRETA RIVER BAND

26. 7., 20:00, Promenade of Velenje

Old school rock band from Nazarje that plays and interprets geunine old and modern rock music. They play their own music as well as adapt songs of other musicians.
