Wine and prosciutto on the Slap \u201cplac\u201d<\/h2>\n

The 1st<\/sup> Slap Vino Festival with its blend of wine, food, and culture will put the Vipava Valley and particularly the small village of Slap, on the map as the destination of delights. Come for a taste on 15th<\/sup> June from 16:00 to 24:00 on the village square of Slap, the world\u2019s largest producer of Zelen white wine. Don\u2019t miss the first choir meeting, too, on 14th<\/sup> June at 19:30. <\/strong><\/p>\n

In these parts a village square is called \u201cplac\u201d and has always been the centre of public and social life, contributing greatly to the village\u2019s liveliness. It is the place where important national and local issues were proclaimed, and where people met for dance and song.<\/p>\n

The Slap \u201cplac\u201d <\/strong>is truly special. Surrounded by the historical buildings like mansion, monastery turned into a farmhouse and church, it has many stories to tell. Providing a perfect backdrop for events and a shelter from bora, it inspired Slap native Denis Je\u017e to put together an unique project: wine festival with a culinary and cultural twist.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn today’s fast-paced world of digital communications and socialising in virtual space, it\u2019s important to hark back to the times, when people found moments for gathering with song, wine, and slices of bora-cured prosciutto. In my home village of Slap, I recognised the potential for an event that I believe could become a notable yearly tradition. The village has several wineries that together produce the most Zelen white wine in the world, as well as other native wine varieties, such as Pinela. Slap also boasts a culinary tradition that is based on local products. With basic conditions met, a little bit of effort is all it takes to achieve a wider recognition of Slap’s offerings and to take advantage of Vipava Valley\u2019s opportunities and possibilities in terms of gastronomy and tourism in general,\u201d<\/em> says Denis Je\u017e<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This vast potential was also recognised by Lonely Planet<\/strong>, the world’s largest and most influential travel guide publisher. Last year it placed the Vipava Valley<\/strong> on the prestigious Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2018 Top 10 Destination<\/em><\/strong> list and recommended a visit.<\/p>\n

“The Vipava Valley is a great example of a hidden gem, right in the heart of Europe. This is a region rich in appeal and charm, offering great food experiences, exciting adventure activities, and stunning scenery \u2026 \u00a0With so much to offer, it\u2019s perhaps a surprise that more travellers haven\u2019t yet discovered the delights of this area.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vipava Valley needs enticing products and events, that could raise its profile and attract travellers in search of different, unique experiences. This would also provide the local inhabitants with opportunities for new sources of income.<\/p>\n

One such opportunity comes with the 1st<\/sup> Slap Vino Festival<\/strong>, the wine festival that will take place on 15th<\/sup> June from 16:00 to 24:00<\/strong> on the Slap central square \u201cplac\u201d. The focus will be on wines and cuisine from local wineries and farms: Vina Ben\u010dina, Ferjan\u010di\u010d, <\/strong>Jamsek 1887, <\/strong>Marc, Na hribu, Petri\u010d, <\/strong>Pregeljc, Tomas, Hi\u0161a vin Rondi\u010d, <\/strong>Malik, Rehar<\/strong>, and Tro\u0161t farms, Rouna <\/strong>and Burja estates, Vinarstvo Dora Erzelj, Mi\u0161ka, \u017dor\u017e 1696, <\/strong>as well as Uro\u0161 \u010crnigoj Slap Brewery, the Me\u017enarjevi<\/strong> farm <\/strong>and The<\/strong> Housewives Society of Planina pri Ajdov\u0161\u010dini<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The accompanying cultural programme with various performers will be held under a stretch tent. The evening will be rounded off with the concert by singer Maja Zalo\u017enik<\/strong>, who, among other accomplishments, was a runner-up at The Voice of Germany in 2014.<\/p>\n

On the eve of the wine festival, on 14th<\/sup> June<\/strong> at 19:30<\/strong>, the \u201cplac<\/strong>\u201d will become the stage of the 1st\u00a0<\/sup>Slap Zbor<\/strong>, a relaxed get-together of various choirs with a programme of songs about wine, socialising and traditions. Attendance was confirmed by Ipavska Chamber Choir, Sre\u010dko Kosovel Male Choir from Ajdov\u0161\u010dina <\/strong>and Obala Mixed Choir from Koper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The picturesque village is perfect for nostalgic strolls along the narrow streets, past the stone entrances, courtyards with stone wells and 18th<\/sup> century houses, that bear witness to Slap\u2019s rich cultural heritage. The surrounding area provides an idyllic scenery for long walks, dominated by vines and the view of Nanos plateau.<\/p>\n

Slap Vino Festival<\/strong> was born of idea to inject our everyday lives with the spirit of times when life went on without focusing on stress and tension, as well as to bring attention to the excellent winemakers from this region and further promote their wines.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the festival will contribute to creating new products and stories, that will raise the profile of the entire Vipava Valley and attract visitors in search of authentic, one-of-a-kind experiences.<\/p>\n
