White gloves are provided if you wish to peruse the collection, and if<br \/>\nyou\u2019re lucky you\u2019ll also get to meet the monastery\u2019s only remaining monk, Father Roman. Cesta Krs\u030ckih<br \/>\nZ\u030crtev 26, +386 (0)7 490 40 00\/+386 (0)7 490 40 11, www.knjiznica-krsko.si<br \/>\nKr\u0161ko City Museum<br \/>\nLocated in a maze of rooms in what were three 17th-century family residences, this beautifully<br \/>\npresented museum includes a room dedicated to Josipina Hoc\u030cevar and another to the prolific sculptor<br \/>\nVladimir S\u030ctovic\u030cek. A series of temporary exhibitions promoting Krs\u030cko\u2019s historical and cultural heritage<br \/>\ncan also be seen, and the museum is currently home to an exhibition commemorating the Slovenes<br \/>\ndeported by the Germans during WWII. Dating back to the 9th century<br \/>\nwith a wealth of 16th-century additions, the castle is also home to Slovenia\u2019s only Trappist monastery.<br \/>\nOriginating in the region in the 19th century, the Trappists have had a great influence on the cultivation<br \/>\nand production of traditional foods including fruit farming, the cheese trade, bee-keeping and the<br \/>\nmaking of chocolate and liqueurs. The castle is also the end point of the so-called Trappist Trail, which<br \/>\ntakes hikers through Sremic\u030c and Grmada to the Church of St. Mohor before leading up to the castle<br \/>\nitself. www.gradrajhenburg.si<\/p>\n<p>Valvasor Monument<br \/>\nThroughout Slovenia the name of Janez Vajkard Valvasor is one that repeatedly finds its way onto<br \/>\nstreets, squares, parks and restaurants. The 17th century nobleman travelled widely in Europe and<br \/>\nNorth Africa and was a fellow of the Royal Society in London, but it was in Krs\u030cko where he died of<br \/>\nnatural causes in 1687 at the age of 52. Best known for his comprehensive encyclopaedia of the<br \/>\nCarniola region, Slava vojvodine Kranjske (The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola), Valvasor\u2019s likeness is<br \/>\nthe work of noted local sculptor Vladimir S\u030ctovic\u030cek.
