BBC&#8217;s journalist wrote about Ana Ro\u0161: &#8220;<em>When it comes to Slovenia, Ljubljana and Lake Bled may be the extent of most international visitors\u2019 knowledge. But things are changing, with Slovenia fast becoming one of Europe\u2019s prime gastronomic destinations. This is, at least in part, thanks to one woman \u2013 Ana Ro\u0161, head chef at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/gastronomy\/hisa-franko-among-the-best-restaurants-in-the-world\/\">Hi\u0161a Franko<\/a><\/strong>, a family restaurant in the alpine surrounds of the So\u010da Valley and flanked by the Julian Alps. In June 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/featured\/what-does-ana-ros-think-about-michelin-stars\/\"><strong>Michelin announced its first-ever stars given to a Slovenian restaurant, awarding Hi\u0161a Franko two stars<\/strong><\/a>. The restaurant is also currently <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/slovenia\/ana-ros-the-worlds-best-female-chef\/\">ranked number 38 on the World&#8217;s 50 Best Restaurants list<\/a><\/strong>, and Ro\u0161 was featured in Netflix&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/lifestyle\/slovenia-in-a-new-netflix-series\/\">Chef&#8217;s Table<\/a><\/strong>. The innovative, self-taught chef presides over a menu that takes its cues from the astonishing variety of produce offered up by the Slovenian terroir \u2013 so diverse that in 2016 local ethnologists divided the country into 23 distinct gastronomic regions. Such rich natural ingredients and the resulting cuisine, which combines Italian, Balkan and alpine influences \u2013 in dishes such as buckwheat beignet with sour ricotta and porcini mushrooms, and cured sardine with figs and black lemon \u2013 has seen Slovenia named the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/uncategorized\/slovenia-european-region-of-gastronomy-2021\/\">European Region of Gastronomy for 2021<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-the-slovenia\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"0jLaE1Bbac\"><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/slovenia\/ana-ros-the-worlds-best-female-chef\/\">Ana Ro\u0161 \/ The World&#8217;s Best Female Chef \/ No. 38 of The World&#8217;s 50 Best Restaurants<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content lazyload\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
