Read more here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slovenia as the best holiday destination for 2021<strong> <\/strong><\/h2><p>Slovenia is known as the Michelin-starred food and old-world wine make this an exciting up-and-comer. <\/p><p><strong>Conde Nast Traveller described Slovenia as the best holiday destination for 2021: <\/strong><\/p><p><em>It\u2019s somewhat mind-boggling that Slovenia \u2013 tucked between old favourites Italy and Croatia \u2013 hasn\u2019t been overrun already. After all, its turquoise rivers, glacier-fed lakes and soaring, snow-capped peaks are pretty enough to make even seen-it-all sorts weak at the knees. The country&#8217;s most famous landmark, Lake Bled, is more peaceful than any of Europe&#8217;s better-known lakes. And the hubbub is well-deserved \u2013 2020 saw the launch of its first Michelin Guide, in which six restaurants \u2013 including <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/restaurants\/hisa-franko\/\">Hi\u0161a Franko, helmed by Ana Ro\u0161 of Chef\u2019s Table fame<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 were awarded a total of seven stars. You\u2019ll find future-focused Alpine dishes on Ro\u0161\u2019s imaginative menu \u2013 from goat\u2019s-milk croissants stuffed with rosehip to roebuck sashimi with juniper and chestnut \u2013 while one-starred Dam in Nova Gorica serves exquisite local seafood.<\/em><\/p><p><em>This all comes ahead of Slovenia\u2019s real moment in the spotlight, having been named the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/uncategorized\/slovenia-european-region-of-gastronomy-2021\/\"> European Region of Gastronomy for 2021<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. The emphasis<em> here falls firmly on ecological farming and sustainability \u2013 the capital Ljubljana is one of the greenest cities on earth \u2013 with locally sourced ingredients harvested from Adriatic salt pans, grown in gardens, foraged from meadows and turned out by the country\u2019s ever-productive bees. Oenophiles are getting a whiff of its potential, too, with a staggering 52 grape varietals producing award-winning amber and natural wines. Zorjan\u2019s Dolium Muscat Ottonel was recently named the world\u2019s best orange wine by Decanter, and whole parts of the country \u2013 including the Lendava route in the east \u2013 are dedicated to the drink.
