The Slovenian wine region is divided into three parts. This week we take you on a virtual trip to Dolenjska region, where we will discover one of the top Slovenian wine &#8211; Cvi\u010dek.  <\/p><p>Cvi\u010dek has made the wine-growing of Dolenjska famous across Europe and has claimed a spot as a Slovenian wine ambassador next to Karst Teran.\u00a0 <\/p><p>This unique Slovenian wine has evoked mixed feelings between Slovenians. Cvi\u010dek comes from the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia, which is also known as Dolenjska. <\/p><p>Doelnjska is located in the south-east of Slovenia and it is home to first-rate vines which have been thriving for centuries and give excellent wines together with the love of winegrowers. If you ever embark on a trip to Dolenjska the odds of coming across Cvi\u010dek are actually pretty high and we recommend your try a glass. <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Cvi\u010dek<\/strong><\/h2><p>Cvi\u010dek is a unique sort of wine as it is composed of different grape varieties, which includes white and red grape species. Usually, the composition of Cvi\u010dek includes at least four grape varieties, \u00a0of which more than two-thirds are red and almost a third are white wine varieties. These can be blended as grapes, must or wine, but at the second settling of wine at the latest.  The main varieties used in Cvi\u010dek are Red \u017dametovka and White Kraljevina, but it also contains Blue Franconian, Blauer Portugieser, Welschriesling or Rumeni plavec. <\/p><p>The main ingredient of Cvi\u010dek is \u017dametna \u010crnina, which composes 45% of Cvi\u010dek. Kraljevina is known as a variety of white wine and its main &#8220;goal&#8221; is to change the acidity level of Cvi\u010dek, making it more drinkable if you will. <\/p><p>Sometimes La\u0161ki Rizling is also added to the Cvi\u010dek mix. La\u0161ki Rizling is also known as Italian Riesling.<\/p><p>Cvi\u010dek has a &#8220;relatively&#8221; low alcoholic content, which ranges between 8,5 % up to 10 %. Cvi\u010dek is actually a dry and noticeably sour red wine.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Health benefits of Cvi\u010dek<\/strong><\/h2><p>We all know red wine has certain health benefits. Red wines usually have a relatively low level of sugar and low alcohol levels. Therefore, Cvi\u010dek can be drunk by people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. <\/p><p>Cvi\u010dek also reduces cardiovascular risks, promotes metabolism and can actually prevent insomnia and strengthen your bloodstream. Regular consumption of red wines such as Cvi\u010dek have been claimed to prevent heart attacks.  Several studies have concluded that regular consumption of red wine such as Cvi\u010dek improves the antioxidant activity of the blood and prevents the aggregation of blood platelets.<\/p><p><strong>A glass of Cvi\u010dek a day keeps the doctor away. Cheers! <\/strong><\/p><p>For all the ladies out there, let us tell you that Cvi\u010dek is also anti-aging. Cvi\u010dek can also help with a weight loss diet, replacing some of the carbohydrates in your daily meal with cucumber and reducing the amount of fat in your body. As if you needed more excuses to try Cvi\u010dek, right?    <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Protection of Cvi\u010dek<\/strong><\/h2><p>Dolenjska is reigned over by Cvi\u010dek with a protected composition of red and white varieties.\u00a0<strong>Cvi\u010dek is the only wine in the world with a wine composition protected by law.<\/strong><\/p><p>Since 2001 Cvi\u010dek has been legally protected both within Slovenia and the EU, as a product of traditional denomination, meaning that only wine produced in the Dolenjska region in accordance with official specifications can be labeled as Cvi\u010dek.\u00a0As you can see Slovenians take their Cvi\u010dek very seriously. <\/p><p>For those of you who are interested in learning more about the history and production of Cvi\u010dek in Dolenjska region, there is something of a holy trinity of sites that are easily accessible to visitors: the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inyourpocket.com\/Krsko\/Sightseeing\/Around-Krsko\/The-Embassy-of-Cvicek_75379v\">Embassy of Cvi\u010dek in Raka<\/a>, which was built for the purpose of promoting the wine; Vinska Klet Kr\u0161ko, which is by far the largest producer; and the wine cellar at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inyourpocket.com\/Kostanjevica\/Sightseeing\/Museums-and-Galleries\/Brozidar-Jakac-Gallery_77454v\">Bo\u017eidar Jakac Gallery<\/a>\u00a0in Kostajevica Monastery, which is widely considered the birthplace of Cvi\u010dek. <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Celebration of Cvi\u010dek in Slovenia<\/strong><\/h2><p><strong>Did you know there is actually a celebration in Dolenjska region dedicated to Cvi\u010dek?<\/strong><\/p><p>In May, the traditional\u00a0Cvi\u010dek Week\u00a0is held in Novo mesto.
