Surrounded by medieval walls with five preserved towers, the entire crescent-shaped hilltop village has deservedly been declared a cultural monument. The largest church in all of Brda can be found in the centre of the village and is naturally dedicated to St Martin, the patron saint of wine.<\/p>\n<p><iframe data-src=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=Brda%20%C5%A1mratno&amp;t=m&amp;z=10&amp;output=embed&amp;iwloc=near\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" aria-label=\"Brda \u0161mratno\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/the-slovenia.com\/gastronomy\/wine\/kabaj-wines-gorsika-brda-slovenia\/<\/p>\n<h2>Gonja\u010de Lookout tower<\/h2>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">GONJAC\u030cE LOOKOUT TOWER:\u00a0<\/strong> In this region of extraordinary views, perhaps the very best can be found just to the northeast of S\u030cmartno in the small village of Gonjac\u030ce. On clear days, the 23m lookout tower offers unobstructed views in all directions, with the Dolomites and Julian Alps to the north, the Friulian plain to the west, the Gulf of Trieste to the south, and the forests of Trnovo and Vipava Valley to the east.<br \/>\n<iframe data-src=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=Gonja%C4%8De%20Lookout%20tower&amp;t=m&amp;z=10&amp;output=embed&amp;iwloc=near\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" aria-label=\"Gonja\u010de Lookout tower\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Medana<\/h2>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">MEDANA:\u00a0<\/strong> Located on a hilltop in the southwest corner of Brda, just several hundred metres from the Italian border, the small village of Medana has an outsized reputation for both wine (obviously) and art. With gorgeous sweeping views of the Vipolz\u030ce plain below, it\u2019s no surprise that Medana\u2019s most famous son is the prolific poet and polyglot Alojz Gradnik.<br \/>\n<iframe data-src=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=medana%20brda&amp;t=m&amp;z=10&amp;output=embed&amp;iwloc=near\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" aria-label=\"medana brda\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Sabotin peace park<\/h2>\n<p><strong>SABOTIN<\/strong><strong> PEACE PARK:<\/strong> When coming to Brda from Nova Gorica via the famed Solkan Bridge, the only road quite strangely requires that you first pass through several hundred metres of Italian territory before reaching the village of Podsabotin, which lies below and takes its name from Sabotin Hill.
