In Kozana, among the rolling terraces of Gori\u0161ka Brda, the Jakon\u010di\u010d family has been building a wine story for almost 180 years \u2013 one in which tradition is not displayed, but lived. It began in 1847 with Mihael and Carolina Jakon\u010di\u010d, and today continues through four distinctive wine lines: Jakon\u010di\u010d, Carolina, Mosaic and Uvaia. Its leading lady is Rebula, Brda\u2019s signature grape variety, which in their hands has earned some of the most important international wine awards.<\/strong><\/p>

From the First Vineyard in 1847 to a Modern Winery<\/strong><\/h2>

In 1847, Mihael and Carolina Jakon\u010di\u010d planted the family\u2019s first consolidated vineyard in Kozana. It was a time full of opportunity: new roads and railways were being built, new markets were opening, and viticulture in Gori\u0161ka Brda was becoming an increasingly important economic activity.<\/p>

The family\u2019s journey was not without challenges. The vineyards were hit by phylloxera, followed by wars and difficult living conditions, yet knowledge continued to be passed down from one generation to the next. Today, parents and children work together on the estate, while modern technology complements manual work, experience and an intuitive understanding of each vineyard and vintage.<\/p>

This connection between generations remains one of the winery\u2019s strongest foundations. The younger generation brings knowledge, energy and an international outlook, while the older generation contributes a deep understanding of Brda\u2019s soil and the patience without which great wines cannot be made.<\/p>
