Slovenia is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its independence this year. Statehood Day, observed on 25 June and marked as a national holiday and a day off work, commemorates the historic events of 25 June 1991, when the Slovenian Assembly adopted the key documents that paved the way for the country’s independence, following the decision made by citizens in the independence plebiscite.<\/strong><\/p>

On the occasion of the anniversary, Prime Minister Janez Jan\u0161a called for Slovenia\u2019s shared future to be built on the values that united the nation during its defining moment of independence. He stressed that history demonstrates the importance of standing together when addressing the most significant issues affecting the country\u2019s development. According to the Prime Minister, a clear vision, courage and cooperation will enable Slovenia to seize opportunities that are greater than they may appear today.<\/p>
