Perhaps the most extravagant example of glamping from history was a political meeting in June 1520 between Henry VIII and Francis I of France. The two young kings, along with several thousand other participants, created a \u2018campsite\u2019 that took over an area of around 10,000 square metres in Balinghem, northern France. By today\u2019s standards, with its music, dancing and feasting, it could be more likened to a festival than a meeting between royals. The staggering scene is depicted in the painting The Field of the Cloth of Gold and now hangs in the royal collection at Hampton Court, London.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s glamping like today?
The above mentioned examples may have been luxurious for their times, but compared to today they are still lacking some of the amenities that have become standard. Electricity, hot running water and WI-FI, are the very least one can expect.
