According to the old Julian calendar, spring begins on St. Gregory’s Day, March 12. On the evening before, March 11, Ljubljana’s Trnovo district comes alive with the traditional event “Welcome Spring with Gregorčki”. Visitors gather along the Gradaščica river, where children and families participate in creative workshops, enjoy live music, and taste local delicacies.
The highlight of the event is the floating of “Gregorčki”, small handcrafted wooden or paper boats with candles, symbolizing the transition from winter to spring. This charming festival is a beautiful way to connect with Slovenia’s rich cultural heritage and celebrate the return of longer, brighter days in a magical setting.
