Fredrik Petrov is a Norwegian-Bulgarian artist who graduated in contemporary dance from the Academy of Arts in Oslo. He works in the field of theatre as an actor, dancer and choreographer. In 2023, he made his debut as a freelance artist with the solo performance Pardon, Petals. In it, he analyses Balkan folk culture and tradition, especially folk dance, from a queer perspective. His work reflects a conscious effort to transcend conventional boundaries and invites audiences to contemplate the complexities inherent in the human experience. The solo focuses on tradition of macho culture in the Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Petrov explores how typical masculine attributes manifest themselves, and whether machoisme can be fostered in a body that is alien to it. Sexy, witty and deeply moving.
